If you feel that strongly about him create another event (even if its not real) that you must attend and let him know you have other plans.
If your serious about the career/job your in you might be able to use the party as a way to network with others that might help you advance, you may want to suffer through it. Just don't get drunk and talk about how you dislike your boss though!
If that's not the case, don't go and you may want to look for another job as well, if you can't stand your boss right now, it probably won't get better in the future.

If your office has a lot of politics, especially if the boss is part of those politics, then you have to go. If you don't, he will hold it against you in the future. If not, and if he would be indifferent to you absence, then you might get away with not going. But, personally, I would still go, just in case.
