"Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it keeps our planet habitable. However, by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising."
(the remainder is not from climatecrisis.net)
Think of the atmosphere as a window. We let light come in our windows. Some of the light is soaked up by our furniture, walls, etc. some is let back out of our windows. If our windows only let light in and not out, our rooms would be extremely bright.

I would encourage you to research the fact that the polar ice caps are melting on Mars. This is not due to SUV's or other human (or little green men) activity. It is a normal variation in temperature that occurs just like our current global warming of 1.5 degrees over the past 150 years. The Earth had a similar warming occur during the middle ages. The were no SUV's back then. And, for goodness sakes, avoid Chicken Little at all costs.

It's a long discussion really, but i can keep my answer short and still help you a great deal i think.... Go to blockbuster and rent "An Inconvenient Truth" watch it intently, watch it many times over if necessary, but it's the best explanation I've ever heard about Global warming, How it's occurring, and all of it's misconceptions...it's a documentary given by Al Gore, the man who should have been President when Bush stole it from him in 2000.

This term "global warming" is a joke. There is no such thing as global warming. Back in the late 70's there was a scare of "global cooling" or mini iceage.
There is however climate change which this entire planet endures and has since the beginning of water and land on this planet. there has been several warming and cooling trends for hundreds of millions of years.

global warming is a natural cycle our earth goes through.
We were once in an ice-age... a long time before SUVs and greedy corporations. The planet started warming up and has continued since the last mini ice age of 10,000 or so years ago.
We can add to this process and make it worse, but we cannot stop it.
