Not a good idea at all. Without divorce as a way out, we would definitely have a huge increase in extramarital affairs, spousal abuse, abandoned marriages, children out of wedlock, possibly even spousal homicides. True we need to find a way to cut back on divorces, but making it illegal isnt the answer. Maybe if divorcing couples were forced into counseling first for at least 1 month or so would help. Without a way out would force many couples to stay together that should never gotten married in the first place, creating a very hostile and dangerous situation for everyone involved including the kids. It just wont work. True, divorcing just for the sake of divorcing should be made illegal but just divorces; no way

I don't think it should be illegal. I think it should be harder to obtain.
I don't think the reason "I fell out of love" is a reason to get a divorce. You can fall back into love. Being married is some days you love 'em and some days you want to ring their neck. The same can be said about parents and kids someday you adore them and some days you want to ring their neck. You don't divorce you parents or kids though.

Love is companionship, having someone their to grow old with, telling your grand kids what you did 50 years ago when you first met.

If you marry many you will never have that foundation or history together.

Now there are extremes like abusive relationships and there should be outs to those. Abuse is a reason for Divorce.

Cheating can be worked through. That is not a reason for divorce.

Hard to answer that one. There are many people that go into marriage with the idea ahhhhhh, if it doesn't work I can get divorced and there are people that swear they would never get divorced because they honestly don't believe in it and get divorced anyway because of extremely bad circumstances. I would have to say no don't make it illegal - make it for the right reasons!!

i think it would be completely ignorant to make divorce illegal. Due to domestic violence, physical and emotional abuse of either husband or wife, who wants to be locked into that type of relationship. For the children especially. Plus, people have a tendency to change over time, and if that's for the better/worse and your relationship doesnt work, then you need to change your life so that everyone's happy. For the one who said that arranged marriages work out better, who are you kidding. Lets see how happy you would be if you had no choice. Emotionally happy. You wouldnt be.

Never. Bad idea. People grow apart intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. Their goals can diverge. It would be wrong to force people to stay married together. Their resentment and abusiveness towards one another will escalate exponentially over time. There is nothing sadder than seeing elderly people mistreating one another because they stayed married even though they hated each other. I bet the rate of murders and mis persons would increase if people were not allowed to divorce. The consequences are staggering.

NO! Divorce should be completely legal. However, perhaps not as easy to get as it is now.

My mother's first husband chased and shot at her with a shot gun. Divorce was not only the wisest choice, but the healthiest.

Absolutely not. Are you crazy? Hey, it's nice to stay together but people are ever changing.Long marriages are the result of habit and it being too much trouble to get a divorce.

No, I definitely wouldn't vote for that. Although I do believe that marriage should be forever, sometimes things change and you really can't live with your spouse anymore. I'm glad my parents got divorced.

**addition**
Would you expect someone to stay married if they are constantly being cheated on, disrespected, beaten, etc... ?

Not me! Why should it be illegal to dissolve a partnership that is toxic? I'd be dead right now if I couldn't have divorced my first husband, no kidding.

It should never be made illegal. People shouldn't be forced to live with someone that they don't get along with anymore. People deserve to be happy.
