The movie was a made for TV movie, probably back in the 80’s. It is about a nuclear disaster or something like that and I believe what made it unique was that it was played through with no commercial breaks and people ended up believing it.

uuuuuum no one believed a TV movie was really happening! The last time that happened was when "War of the Worlds" aired on radio!

However, I think you are referring to a movie called "The Day After"

It had to do with a terrorist threat in Charleston South Carolina and the network had to remind people that this was a dramatic presentation, but I can't recall it, either

I believe it was "The day after" staring Jason Robards in 1983.
