I was looking at my 11 year old daughters magazine and basicly it's full of photos of semi clad pop stars and girls beauty hints. When I was 11 my comics had people like "Captain Hurrican" a marine who would erupt into a "raging fury" and be able to tip German tanks over with his bare hands. Or some lad who bounced about in a Crimson Ball (can't remember why) or the indestructable owner of "Kellys Eye " a gem snatched from the right eye of some Aztec God statue (there was a bad guy who had the left eye), Billy the Cat a crime fighting athletic lad ,The Tough of theTrack ,a plumber who was also an Olympic Athlete who trained on Fish and Chips..no wonder the kids today are daft.

I am 40 now, and the comic book characters from when I was young are still around, but there are many more of them and the storylines are more adult. I am assuming that this is because the base of comic book fans is wider, and has to appeal to a wide spectum of people.

My favorite heroes from when I was young are Captain America, the Flash, Aquaman, the Avengers and the Justice League of America. I do still have my comics from the late 60s and early 70s, and everything has changed, from the art to the stories.

I will admit that the vocabulary is better in today's comics, so I am hoping that will translate into more literate youth, but seeing our school systems, I don't see it happening soon.
