Sorry, the 4.3 V6 drinks gas like a V8, but lacks the power. I owned a 2002 S/10 Blazer 4x4. It got 15MPG HWY on a good day with the AC off. I own a 2005 Z71 4x4 CREW cab Silverado now, and it gets 20MPG HWY (AC off, good day) and it has a 5.3liter 310hp engine (a lot more power, much bigger vehicle). Point: Not all engines are created equal, and I guess they didn't really care about fuel mileage when the little V6 beast came out. They still use that engine today, in the full sized trucks, and they still suck down the gas. Keep your tires inflated to the correct pressure (35psi should be about right for your vehicle), keep up with fuel and air filters. Keep all your maintenance up, and maybe you'll squeaze out another mpg or two. The best thing however, is if you're making payments on it, try looking into something newer (Not the Trailblazer, they suck too) and getting out of that thing. I remember when I traded mine in, it was a load off my back. I also bought an 06 Cobalt 4dr, it gets 34mpgs on the highway and 24 in town..... Good luck to you.

I think that your out of luck. I also have a Blazer with the 4.3l V6. I get about 17mpg in the summer and am now getting 14mpg since it got colder out. Like everyone else says make sure that the engine is running properly and keep the tires inflated, you can also clean out the car, lighter car will get better mileage. They do make performance add ons that may improve the mileage but they can be pricey and a lot of them don't work like they say they do.

first off doa full tune up, with good plugs, i use bosch+2 personally, change plug wires, you may also consider upgrading the coil for a hotter spark. look into getting a hi-flo air filter, and a cold air intake, swap out the restrictive factory muffler for a higher flowing version, or a straight thru type muffler,an can also go with slightly larger exhaust pipe from after the muffler no more than 1/2" larger than factory, you do need some back pressure for the engine to run right.you can also check your pcv valve, it may be bad an can kill your fuel mileage.you can also take it out all together, and just plug the hose that came off it.pcv simply reroutes unburnt air/fuelback into the system to try again.my dakota 3.9 gets better mileage with out a pcv,and simply plug the vacuum line that came off.also dump some lucas oil products fueltank/gasline/injector cleaner into your tank for a cpl fill ups,and start using slick-50 or something similiar to reduce friction in your engine.you may also want to change your oil as well to a better blend,or synthetic blend.maybe a full synthetic

Try some performance stuff. Adding an intake, programmer, mass air flow sensor (to work with the intake) and exhaust boosted me from 18 mpg to 22 mpg.
Try hunting around www.stylinconcepts.com for stuff. They have a "gas saver" section as well.
I have no clue why v6s are worse than v8s.........*shrugs* I had a 94 silverado, and it was worse than the V8 I have now! lol
Good luck!

Accelerate when going downhill and coast t as much as you can uphill. Just kidding, Really there is not much you can do except maintain it very well and inflate the tires to the maximum allowed. Oh and you can always strip the interior and join the ricer crew.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do with it, the 4.3 Vortec is a thirsty engine.
