Seek a more honest profession. Psychiatrists don't understand the spiritual causes that affect the human condition, and their science is therefore incomplete.
And because it's incomplete, they're really not qualified to charge exhorbitant sums to help people, when they often make them worse. They're actually best suited for treating one another, after the doors are locked at 5 pm.

Yes a strong background in how the mind works would help you become a great psychiatrist. However, you need to remember that as an undergraduate student you will still need to take all the science requirements to get into medical school and if you want to get a masters in Psychology before you go to medical school then this will mean there will be a delay in completing your goal of becoming a psychiatrist.
There is the plus and the minus in the simplest of terms.

A master in Psychology will definitely help. Otherwise you'll have to take pre-requisites courses when you apply for the PhD program. In order to become a psychiatrist, you need to go to medical school. So you'll have to take all the science courses (chemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology, etc...). If you don't want to go through med school, you can consider being a psychologist instead. While you're in high school, take a couple of psychology classes and see which areas you're most interested in (e.g., clinical psych, child developmental, abnormal psych, forensic psych, industrial-organization psych). It takes a long time and dedication to be a psychiatrist. Good luck!

You'll want to look into being pre-med with maybe a focus on psychology. It's not just a one-degree thing - you have to do graduate medical training as well.

You should get a degree in psychology, but you should not do your masters in Psychology. You should specialize a bit more for your masters...e.g. if you want to deal with children or corporations etc.

To become a psychiatrist you must first become a medical doctor, MD. Then you go to graduate school to specialize in psychiatry. Four years of pre-med at a university, four years of medical school, then I don't know how long in graduate school to become a specialist in your field.

ask the councelor or acedemic advisor at the school you would like to attempt. they should have a plan already made out for most professions. I too, will recommend choosing a different profession.
