Personally, I think velvet is horrible and one piece of it is one piece too much, let alone a whole outfit of it.
BUT, it is the holidays, so I will let you slide. Sometimes the holidays are a good time to wear things you normally don't And hopefully you do not wear velvet a lot.
The red velvet top with a pair of black or grey slacks would be fine, as long as they are a more trim cut.
How old are you? If you are under 45, I would go for straight fit or flare style pants.

Do you belong to the Red Hat Society? They usually wear red and purple together. I would suggest the red top with a pair of black velvet pants, much nicer looking.

I think that red velvet on purple velvet would be a little much. In fact, I would avoid velvet on velvet altogether. What you should do is pair either one of these with a neutral (like black or brown) and then have accessories that set off whichever piece you would like to have "pop".

You could definetly pull it off just make sure you have Red Velet Pumps or Red Velvet Stilletto Boots, a Red Velvet Purse!! To real set it off you could add a Purple Tight Fiting Blazer!! Be sure to send me pics!! Don't forget to two-tone your eyes with brown at the top and Purple at the bottom!!

i hope youre not serious... velvet on velvet is a HUGE no.
and never ever, velvet pants.
try some black slacks, and a nice (non velvet) top.
something classic, and not too loud.

you should probably tone it down a little bit and wear the top with black pants, or the pants with a black top.
