Some of the older cable modems would have a USB connection but it's a lot slower than a regular Network card.

I recommend adding a network card they only run about 10 bucks now.

But you have to have a highspeed line DSL or Cable dropped into your house. Either provider will include a modem at now additional cost.

Yes, Verizon offers a DSL modem that can output in either ethernet, or USB. Although the USB is 2/5 slower then ethernet its still quick. So I would suggest getting verizon DSL (im sure there are other companys that offer such a modem) and use the USB cable rather then the ethernet.

You reported: "So i tried to connect right now from my modem to the workstation, yet I bumped right into a difficulty because the cable is smaller on the workstation." i imagine the time period "cable" you're preserving is the "port". in recent times there are 2 ports on the lower back of the pc- those are the LAN port and the modem port. LAN ports are wider than modem ports. The cable between the DSL modem and the workstation/workstation are noted as LAN CABLES. Does your pc has LAN port? purchase a LAN CARD in case you do not have. or in case your pc has a PCMCIA slot, purchase a instantaneous workstation Adapter (i lately offered one from Dlink, DWL-G630 instantaneous G workstation Adapter). With this adapter you are able to connect to the web by you instantaneous router.
