In the spanics countries you can find people of many races, and mixed, there are whites, blacks, native, asian, etc.
For example: A black person from USA has the same background as a black person from any spanic country.

I'm not sure why, but it makes for a lot of ignorance when it comes to knowing that spanish speaking countries are multicultural. When people think latino or hispanic, they usually think of those who are probably mixed with native american and spanish ancestry.

Being a person of mixed descent, even if you don´t break down the part that makes me "hispanic" I have pondered this before. The answer I have come up with is that Americans are hellbent on labeling and pigeon holing everyone and everything. More than any other group that I have been around Americans seem to fear that which they can not easily define and conqueor.
Now I can see using the label to define the culture of this huge group labeled as ¨hispanics". The hispanic (not Spanish) culture is unique in comparison to others around the world, due to it being so mixed,it has become for the most part, one cohesive unit. It is odd that while no one likes being mistaken for the wrong nationality, when it comes down to it people of Iberoamerican descent will band together as one.
As for Spinich´s comment compairing the people comming from different Latin American countries to those that come from different US states, man you are awaaay off. There are over 20 Iberoamerican countries, and they deserve to be referred to as their nationality as much as you deserve not to be called a Canadian or a Mexican for that matter, (which are the other 2 countries in our continent.) Secondly most of the immigrants here are not Mexican, that is just a broad generalization that was packaged and evidently sold to the American public. What a shame. I will grant that most of the Latinos in this country have come from Central America peppered with ever-dwidnling amounts of actual Mexican nationals. In case you were wondering right now the highest growing rate of immigrants into this country don´t even hail from our hemisphere, they are from the African continent.

Because we are a race. When you say Indians, or native Indians, well that's exactly what they are, the native Indians, not Hispanic. In many South American countries native Indians who speak their language, and have their own customs.
In many places they are mixed, Spaniard, African and Indian. Some more than others. There is no specific only black, and only white in most Latin countries, except for the Indians.
Black in the US is not the same for everyone. Our (Hispanic) race is different than many because we are 3 races in one. I have characteristics of all 3, but I am who I am.
If you're from the US, and you're white chances are your ancestors are from Europe, if you're black chances are they're from Africa. But African Americans, are not in the same category as people from the Virgin Islands, just because they have the same skin color.
Most Hispanics in this country, are not Mexicans, and are not illegal.
California, and part of Texas once belonged to them by the way. Also, in America it was a Native Indian language that was spoken, not English. The US constitution doesn't specify a national language.

Hispanics, as normally viewed in the US, refers to people originating in spanish speaking countries (excluding, for some strange reason, Spain).
I think it has more to do with language than actual race.
In a society that mixes and tries to maintain separate states, aberrations such as this will happen.
Good luck!

The PC crowd need for Hispanics to be a race so they can call anybody for the enforcement of our borders a Racist.
It's easier for those people that want to hand over our country to illegals to call those that are for border enforcement and for immigration law enforcement a racist than calling them "you people against a specific nationality".

Because we need a way to generalize.
Most of the "Hispanics" up here are all from Mexico. I just call them Mexicans. I don't use "Latino" or "Hispanics". They are from Mexico, they are Mexicans.
For example, when I travel to Germany they don't say "Hes a Washingtonian" They say "He is an American"
