We tend to repeat our mistakes ... so learn from others' mistakes.. We won't have enough time to commit all of them ourselves.

It depends. You have to realize that it was a mistake first which might take some time or it might not. You might do the act more than once before you realize it's a mistake. If you realize that it was a mistake and you make a decision in your mind that you will never do that again and you don't do it again when the situation arises again then you have learned from it.

Listening to elders was never a strong suit growing up so, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Depends on the consequences. If it hurts enough, or really messes with my moral code, the change in behavior usually happens right away, If I get away with it, I'll probably do it again, until it hurts enough to change.
Some people may learn from one time, but humans are forgetful creatures, this causes repeated mistakes as we often hear, Forgive and Forget", when we need to hear,"Forgive and Remember".

You learn something from the first mistake, but that does not mean you will not make it again. Some people never learn enough from their mistakes to stop doing them, others learn the first time.

I do better than learning from my own mistakes the first time through - I also save myself a lot of time, energy, and hurt by learning from other peoples' mistakes as well.

On some things I do, but on others I have had the same mistake up to 5-6 times before I kick myself in the as* & say "STOP IT!" Sometimes the mistake can be actually kinda fun. Depends on what exactly it is.

I think it depends on the person. One may only make the mistake once and a lesson is learned, while others take longer and some unfortunately, never. Carelessness and blindness tends to lessen our awareness in general.

No. It always takes a few times before I finally realize the impact of my mistakes. Quite often, it can be so great just getting to that mistake, that the consequence doesn't even register until the damage is already done.

Absolutely not.
After my first marriage, you would have thought I knew what to do the next time? Shoot, second one was twice as bad as the first. Didn't learn a thing from the first one I guess.
