Nope. I think they do that because they have causes they care about and because they have the spotlight, they figure they can bring attention to the issues and groups they feel are important. I don't think anyone thinks they are experts, they just have a grander stage to inform the public about what they care about. I think we would all do it if we could. And if they didn't do it, some would probably complain that they have this stage and don't use it for 'good'. I think if you do have the stage, and you have strong beliefs about right and wrong, you may even feel that it's an obligation to speak out. That not doing so would be morally wrong.

I agree with the sentiment. Angelina Jolie is a great example. She is suddenly the ambassador for the downtrodden third world nations. She claims to be an advocate of human rights. Yet she owns a retired electric chair from the state of texas she bought at auction. All husband snatching aside, it sickens me that americans look to her as some kind of mother Teresa. i remember when she was tongue kissing her brother at the academy awards. No, all the adoptions in the world wont fix her daddy issues or her questionable morals.

I certainly don't. There are celebs on QVC and HSN who say whatever makeup or whatever they're peddling is the best. I don't believe any of it.
T.Cruise seems to know all about anti-depressants according to his Scientology. Bull.
Leo DiCaprio. acts like an expert on global warming.
Robert Redford & Al Gore - the environment.
I won't get started with Rosie O'D and gay rights or adoption! lol lol

YES. Because the politicans are soo full of crap that it's easy for anyone who is on tv or is tagged a "celebrity" to get away w/anything the spills out of their mouths. At least 97% of them don't know what the hell they're talking about. Compared to 99% of the politicians who don't know what is coming out of their mouths either. Both live in a world where what ever they say goes. Nobody is there to challenge their train of thought. So obviously, they embraced any chance they get to spew any agenda they seem fit. But what's even more sad is that we give them that lime-light. Like it or not, we do.

Duh!
Since celebrities are far better than we will ever be, they just know the answer to ABSOLUTELY everything.
We sit at their feet and learn from these nuggets of wisdom that they drop on out heads, hoping that we are capable enough to absorb the knowledge that they have entrusted to us.
So, Michael Richards can tell us of tolerance, Britney Spears on having a happy marriage and Mel Gibson on religious acceptance, for they are just slopping over with experience in these matters

I believe that some people do think that if a celeb says it or does it, then it's ok. I am not one of them.

Well, The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) became the governor of California, and the actor Ronald Reagan, the president of the USA. Does this answer your question?

People are easily tricked into believing so, specially young teenagers who look up to celebs and worship them... I for one see them as ordinary people with lots of money.... and thats it..!
