Next time we should just nuke the superdome and be rid of the trash. Crime soared in Houston and just about every area they have gone. 16 months later and they still sit on their lazy butts whining for more handouts. Wouldn't it be cheaper to have them all report to a central place and have the mafia whack em all.

I admire your "Stones" for actually writing what many of us feel as the continuing inability of a certain segment of our society to become productive, contributing members of our society 12% of the overall US population yet 65% of the US Prison Population...Go figure

Lets be a little more kind. Yes most of those affected by Katrina are not very greatfull.N.O was not hit by the storm like Mississippi who just picked them self up & got on with their lives. N.O. was hit by WATER. Lots of water. But that is what happens when you live below sea leval. The Governor of Mississippi got right on the phone in Washington as soon as the storm allowed. Unlike the mayor of N.O. he did not leave the area & go to a 12 storie hotel away from the storm for 3 days then critize the goverment for being late. M ississippi helped FEMA not hinder it. They took the blame for anything they did not do right instead of blaming the goverment. I am tired of hearing of New Orleans. Thr only people they seem to be worried about are the people of Bourbon Street, the bar tenders & hookers. They bring in all the money for the city.

Yah I was so mad to hear Katrina victims using their relief credit cards to buy golds for their mouth and cosmetic surgery and stuff. Hate to say but the city of New Orleans is a crime ridden $hit town. Thats messed up that Houston and other cities had a higher crime rate after people relocated. I heard drugs were really big in NO and that that has moved as well as the crime. I feel bad because a handful (or maybe more) of bad seeds really give a bad name to everyone associated.

My Hispanic church adopted a Black family from New Orleans who moved to our area in Houston. In New Orleans the dad was unemployed, the mom was a stay at home mom. They had four children ages 4-9. They were living in subsidized housing in New Orleans. They made it on welfare and we're told, the guy stole stuff to feed his family.

After being in Houston for 6 months, a church member found out about the family, and like I said, our church gave them food, clothes for the kids, even an apartment in the area of our church. We paid the utility bills, furnished the place with contributed furniture and even got them CABLE-TV!

Its now been 6 months and the guy is still unemployed (even though we have arranged jobs for him to apply to.) AND to top it off, the wife is PREGNANT again.

We have FINALLY told the family that after two months our church will stop paying the bills. One of our church members is a social worker and we have referred them to get social help. The family has not made one step to contact those agencies that could provide them assistance in child-care and job search assistance.

And... to top it all off, the guy is calling us Hispanics RACIST because we're not going to support his family any longer! I could write much more but I think you get the idea now.

I just think that its a shame that some scum will always choose the remain scum no matter what people do to help them.

Well, maybe they didn't behave so well, but let's see how you act when every single thing you ever owned or knew was taken away from you in a disastrous second, including loved ones, and you're hungry, thirsty, cold and tired with no place to sleep and no prospect of any help from anyone. It's really easy for us to sit here in our nice, warm, safe houses with all our possessions and loved ones intact and lay judgment on people. You must walk a mile in a man's shoes before you can know how he feels.

that might be the funniest avatar I've ever seen for a crazy person.

For the record, if I destroyed your home and everything in it, killed some of your neighbors and friends, and moved to to a gym in Houston, how long would it take you to get back to where you were before?

Also, don't blame the increased crime on all the refugees. they aren't all criminals like you are suggesting.

I'll do the job for free, if you can ensure I never face charges. Houston was a nice town til they showed up. Even other blacks hate their guts.

I have a better idea. Before there is a next time, pave over N.O. and turn it into the worlds largest boat ramp.

I think you have a fabulous idea.

For those who say that we should be a little more kind, or "imagine you lost everything..."? Newsflash for you. Everything they ever had was gotten through hand outs any-dam-way.
