Tell your mate that you are upset by it. Be honest but gentle.
Say that it spoils what is an important friendship....give the assurance that you will not do the same (And stick to it)

Try and find a way to expose this hypocrisy as the persistence of your friend gossiping will end in some people believing in what they hear. Such people are not worthy to be friends anyway and I'm surprised at your fear in losing such a hypocrite.

If they're saying bad things behind your back is this really someone that you want to be friends with ? friends don't behave in that way.
but if you really need to stay friends then let them know you know what they're doing

let her know what she says and ask her why in a calm way you will propaply not talk for a while as she will be guilty and feel bad for getting caught out but eventually she will come round
