If you're referring to Alexander the Great's father, his goal was to unite Greece under Macedonian rule & then destroy Persia.

The first, he managed to achieve by defeating the allied Greek city-states at the Battle of Chaeronea but was murdered before he could execute his plan to invade & conquer Persia
