The only english word in the book is the word copyright (1919). It appears to be a poetry book. It is fragile and are around 100 pages. The title appears to be "Conntich" or "Gonntich". The author appears to be Auguft Lammle. These are printed on the cover of the book. Can anyone tell me what it is and roughly what it is worth???? Any information would be appreciated. Thank You!!!!!

Auguft is August. You can google the author's name. Outside of that, no one on the net can tell you about the authenticity of your book. You would have to take it to an antiquarian bookseller to be appraised. Such a person would charge a small fee to do that for you. Apparently this could be legitimate. Go to the link below to read about the author.

Could you write a few lines from it here?

It's probably written in Schrift (an old German calligraphy-like writing). Thus "Auguft" is actually "August" (in Schrift, "s" is written like a curly "f".) It might be worth quite a bit. If you can, contact a professor or high school teacher of German and read them a bit of the book and get their advice, since they will probably be the closest to experts in German literature and culture you'll find (rather than just some antiques store owner or something).

Mmkay. I just looked this guy up in a couple databases and he appears to be a writer of folk songs/poetry. His name is actually August Laemmle (that is, "Lammle" has an umlaut, or two dots, over the "a"). Some scholarly work has been written on his music. I'll read and translate a bit and post more later. Write me and I can e-mail you what I've found - zsju0601@stcloudstate.edu .

Hi... this book would be of most value to someone who can read German/enjoys poetry.
Unfortunately the bottom has really dropped out of the used book market, so unless this is a fine binding (leather, gilding, etc, which it doesn't sound like?) it's probably only worth $5 to $10.
If you've paid more than that, I sympathize, because I've been in that boat more times than I care to count!

My best advice would be give it to someone who can enjoy it, or take it to a used bookstore and try to get a little money for it.

;-)

The obivous is to Try your local bookstore or Library . They have resources to locate by author or Title. Don't take the book in , just write it down and tell them you are looking for the book. That way you will get a fair account of the worth of the book.
You could get on a German website but translation sometimes is not correct.

Take it to an appraiser. Don't let the date fool you. I have books that are in perfect condition, by a well known author, from 1909 and they are worthless.
