I was going through some tough times and asking myself these exact questions a few years ago and eventually decided since there was no point to living I might as well have fun, since I didn't have the guts to seek the possibility of a life beyond this one. I took up the guitar, let my hair grow long, and gave up my inhibitions, and you know what--it was the best thing I ever did. I did have a lot more fun, I enjoyed what I did, people enjoyed having me around more and I learned that the problems I had been worrying about earlier had either taken care of themselves or had lost their significance. Then I fell in love with an amazing woman and I never again wondered what the point to living was.
The problems I was dealing with in my time of woe, I now realize, were not real problems at all. During those times I dwelled on my problems and worried--a complete waste of time--when I really should have simply gotten to work on either solving them or disregarding those I could not control and working on myself and the negative way they were affecting me. If life hands you lemons, you might as well make lemonades.
But this is besides the fact that this is a very troubled world and we are a very troubled human race. There are people starving, people dying of disease, there's discrimination, pollution, war and the list goes on and on... These are very real problems that must be addressed. And though it may seem distant and you may seem unaffected, it all comes back to you. What are you going to do about it? I don't think "what's the point to being alive?" is a valid question. Who knows? The question to ask is, "what is the point to my life?" Only you can answer that. History is filled with people who admirably answered this question: Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Jesus?, Moses? You don't have to go so far, but you should start with being good to yourself, being a good person and being good to those you encounter.
As for you other questions, I can only answer them briefly as follows.
When are you supposed to die?: Ideally, when your life's mission is accomplished. Unfortunately you have absolutely no control over this so you better not waste your time sitting around wondering and moping. Get to work.
Why do you have to die?: Well, at the rate that humans are reproducing we'll soon overpulate the earth and humanity will need you to die to make more space and the rations of food you would have consumed would feed another generation. Also, any disease you may die of your children, though they may be genetically predisposed to it, will also have that extra generation to develop an antibody to it, thus increasing their chances of surviving this and other diseases and increasing their chances of living longer, healthier, and richer lives. In other words, you cannot live in vain and you cannot die in vain.

If you understand that you are NOT here due to any purpose, but here as a byproduct of life evolving into more and more complicated forms, then you can stop being angry at some mythical entity that may have put you here and then condemned you to a short stay for no known or good reason.
You then can understand that if you have any destiny, it is to satisfy your desires while alive, without endangering your survival in the process, and to put off your death as long as possible, or as long as life is more pleasurable than not - even though the "goal" of evolution may be only that you live long enough to procreate and then nurture your progeny until they can do the same. If you expect there to be a point to all of this, the point is that if you expect something had a particular purpose in mind for you to further or fulfill, there is no such task involved, and no reward or punishment based on how well you might perform it.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

the point is not in being alive... we will all die..u r right.... but the question is what are u going to do during this span?? some ppl waste is doing nothing..some live forever ... the addition to our lives keep them alive . When a person adds a great thing to humanity, not only his lives makes sense...every life of his ancestors makes sense coz he/she would not have been there if they were not. If u are a scientist, a soldier, a devoted parent, hard working student, a police officer, ..... any thing useful, then ur life has value. ( YOU DETERMINE THE POINT OF YOUR LIFE)

Live now, die later. Life is too short to waste time doubting yourself. Live your life to the fullest. If you are unhappy with your life, get off your butt and start changing for the better. You can live any way you want. You need to experience new things, try new things, taste new foods, try new routes, meet new people. If your job sucks, get a new one. If your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband sucks, get a new one or go solo and enjoy singledom. Life is worth living. When you do die, it is not much you can do about that. But hey, you can live differently and get happier. Just make the effort, it is worth it. Life is worth it. You are worth it. You will die when it is your time, until then, live it up and be glad you are still breathing.

The point of being alive is to enjoy life. The point of your life could be to make a diference so you should begin now and try to be remembered for doing great things

Why not? whether or not you believe in another side or some form of a god, they don't say "you only live once" for sh!ts and giggles. try to make the most of it, dont let anything hold you back. if you fear death, just remember that its going to happen anyway, so why let it bother you. you are in control of your mind and body, they do not control you. do what you can to make life what you want it to be, dont focus on what its not. have a good run, and if there is another side, you'll find out when you get there. till then, why worry?

What is the point in being dead? Life can be fun, life can be pleasurable, life can be boring, and life can really suck. You take the good with the bad. I tend to think I live my life to make the lives of others better when I can. But since you can't please everyone, please yourself. If you worry too much about the final destination, you'll miss the entire trip.

Are you going to be remembered as a decent person that was a stand up type or an as*-hole?
It's completely and totally up to you.
