No, people aren't getting dumber but our educational system is doing a mighty poor job. Consider all the people here on Yahoo who don't know how to form a complete sentence, spell or punctuate nor have any knowledge of grammar. I don't know if those of us who ask questions or answer them are a fair representation of the population as a whole but if we are it doesn't say much for our educational system.
Its no wonder that many colleges now have remedial English for freshman.

Speak for yourself. I come here to have fun and enjoy myself. If you're going to go through life been serious the whole time then you might as well become a dentist or something boring.
I know I'm smart but why do I have to prove it to people I'm never going to see in real life? Lighten up!

No knowledge has increased. Our patience has decreased. Our kindness has decreased. Our self indulgence has increased. Our pleasure seeking has increased.
Our standards have decreased. We tolerate everything. We tolerate people continually asking stupid questions and when we confront them as you have done they don't care. They have no standards. They have never been told to guard their tongue. We have a society that is doing whatever they think is right in their own eyes. They have forgotten God and they have no absolutes.
