My boyfriend really needs glasses. First, though, he needs a perscription. And insurance.
I honestly know nothing about this because my parents have always taken care of it for me.
Does anyone know...how expensive is it all? (Insurance, the appointment, ordering lenses/frames?)

Any help would be appreciated.

A lot of times health insurance may not include a vision plan, and even if it does cover vision, it probably won't pay for a whole lot. Your boyfriend could just go to one of the one hour places and have an eye exam and get some glasses there. The frames are what can get really expensive, but there are so many to choose from that he should be able to find some that are a reasonable price.

Have him check prices at Wal-Mart, the Hour Glass, Lens Crafters, etc.

A good quality exam would be about $60-$100 for a glasses exam. I would recommend a doctor who is in a private practice and not in a wal-mart. Glasses can be about $150 and up depending on the frame you pick out. Getting eye insurance is usually a rip off and doesn't save you much money in the long run

well if he has optical through his job, it should be less expensive... if not I would suggest checking the Sunday paper. There is always an ad from somewhere offering free eye exams or $79 frames for glasses. The cost really depends on a few things... How much the exam is, which you'll probably have to call around and ask or check their websites to see if they have prices. The glasses is where you'll pay the most, because you can pick up a pair that is like $600.00 or a pair that is $60.00 it just all depends on what frames he likes and how much he's willing to spend.

well he does need insurance but to get insurance he needs a good job. One that offers insurance to the employees.

He can however call places like lenscrafter or eye masters and see how much an eye exam will cost.
Glasses run different prices depending on the brand of frames. they have great frames for a small price at wal-mart. Try their optomitrist too. They have good prices on exams.

If he can't afford that then you can always contact the local lions eye bank. They can help pay for or give assist him. But use this as a last resort.

I did the walmart thing for a long time the entire package cost me like $200.00. And I still looked great in my glasses.

Good luck

It's all really easy to do, but expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it.

Here in Canada, an appointment is an average of $80. The price of the glasses all depends on where you purchase them. The brand and the treatment you get on the lenses. Even though its expensive, I recommend getting the anti-glare and anti-scratch protection. It really helps and makes the lenses last longer.
