If 2/5 of the employees equals 38, then divide 38 by two to find out what 1/5 of the employees equals out to (which is 19).

Then, multiply this number by 5 (the total portion of employees) and you get 95.

38=2/5(x) 38 equals 2/5 of the unknown

5/2x38=x move 2/5 ro the other side of the equal sign by reversing the fraction to 5/2 leaving the unknown by itself

(5x38)/2=X Multiply 38 times 5 and divide by 2

190/2= X

95=X

There are 95 employees

You can check this by dividing 95 by 5 to get 1/5 of the total or 19 and doubling it to get 38 or 2/5 of 95 and the original given number.
