Whoever said it's a ripoff is an idiot. The oscar would be for 'Best Director', thus making the plot (ripoff or not) a largely (but not entirely) insignificant factor. Besides, Scorsese never even saw the original. This film is incredible, whether it is a copy or not, and I do hope it wins an Oscar. And yes, I've seen the entire Infernal Affairs trilogy, and people should bless the fact that such great plot concepts are coming into western cinema from the east. It's not like it replaces the Infernal Affairs film, but rather stands beside it.

I don't think the Departed was that great of a movie as everyone hyped it up to be. Don't get me wrong it was good, but Growing up in new england (born in providence) lived in R.I. and Boston... i was a little disgusted at how forced and fake the accents were. IMO Goodfella's was 10 times the movie.

Probably, which is unfortunate since he has had much better works that got "snubbed" now they probably feel they owe him...

Plus when you consider that, 3 Murder 6, has more Oscars that Scorsese you can see the problem...LOL

I don't think he will win for this movie. He should have won, in my opinion, for Goodfellas. At this point, he may have to wait for an honorary Oscar.

he should win it, but not for the departed. hes made so many good films in his lifetime that they will give him the lifetime achievement award. ie Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.
