my friend mentioned that she wanted a tv for xmas/bday gift.. well i did some browsing and of course can't find anything good to fit my budget which is $130.. would it be appropriate to just get her a $130 gift certificate to maybe best buys or circuit city and she can fork in the rest. there isn't anything else i can think of to get her..

ask around, if she is one of those who hates gift cert. then no, otherwise, sure its fine.

That sounds like a good idea, maybe you just make her up a stocking, put some candy, fingernail polish, just little things in there along with the gift card, that way you aren't just handing her a card. Just make it more personal than a gift card.

before you give up...try the local second-hand store, thrift store or pawn shop...you MAY find a TV in good condition for cheap....remember that most people in America have TONS of TVs in their houses....so its likely that someone will have an extra nice quality TV to give away to a thrift store...
if you DO find a Tv at a thrift store then supplement your present with something else reasonably priced....
