My father in-law is probably one of the better people in the world, we need more like him. He's the type that would do anything to help no matter the situation But he has two older(26&32) STEP-children, that just suck him dry emotionally and monetarily, constantly. If they aren't disappointing him, they are either high, getting fired, or arrested. I think the mom should do something but she never does, other than shrug her shoulders and look sad. This is not my battle but my spouse always gets dragged into it, which means I get dragged into it. Sometimes I wish I could forgive and forget like him, but who would want to deal with all the heartache all the time. It just sucks to see someone do so much for others, constantly get let down by the ones closest to him, other than his own children. Just looking for feedback, preferably not who cares or deal with it! Thanks..

Look I realize that your husbands family wants to help the step-siblings, but these siblings need to want to succeed for themselves and when it is physically, emotionally, and psychologically damaging people in your family you need to let the siblings sink or swim on their own. No more saving them from themselves.

I had to learn to do this with my dad, and I am only twenty. It was the hardest decision in my life, but I still chose the right choice for me. It was a state of constant stress, worry, and literally made me feel ill fifty percent of the time. I haven't spoken to him in 11 monthes and I leave everything in his life entirely up to him and live my life seperately. That's the only advice I have for you, other than try to be supportive of your husband's families need to try to protect their own even if it doesn't make sense to you.
