Both dropkickchick and Maria are correct. Whether we will call it pyroclastic material or ash depends largely on the degree of pulverisation. If it is very fine grained (high grinding), it is ash. If the material is fragmental (either thrown out from the vent as liquid globules, solidified in air and then deposited or thrown out as solid fragments), it is pyroclastic.
