Here's a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a Metro station in DC.

There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America . I politely declined to take one.

An elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice said, "Lady, don't you care about the children of Iraq ?"

The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam. All three died so you could have the right to stand here and bad mouth our country. If you touch me again. I'll stick this umbrella up your *** and open it!"

God Bless America and Grandma's

I thought this was hilarious.

I find it funny that some people still think the same way about this country after hearing elderly people talk about the things they've been through in life and the events that have happened that caused this country to be what it is now.

Interesting. The trouble with the 20 something's is lack of Education and Lack of Living Life. This is similar to a movie I watched where there were some youger girls riding in there car looking for a parking spot they cut ahead of an elderly lady and parked. Well the older More Experienced lady just Ramed the youngers car and they were upset saying why did you do this and she said I'm Older and have better insurance....

The history of America has been built on people who felt that a life sacrificed on the alter of the defence of freedom and justice is a life well lived. Most people seem to forget that the sadistic rule of the previous Iraqi regime had human beings and innocent ones too at the receiving end. The joy that heralded the fall of a government bear enough testimony to the sigh of relief breathed by Iraqis. There will always be opposition to war, but the actual fact is that war is a part and parcel of human existence as over 15,000 years of human history has taught us. It is heartwarming to know that people can risk their lives for the security of others. The only snag is that at some point, war is turned to politics and innocents are made to suffer unjustly. However, that does not remove the fact that till tomorrow, people still voluntarily sign up for the defence of the beliefs that they hold dear and that are defining principles of mans existence, "to see to an end to oppression". Iraq is not Bush's war, it is a war that we all are fighting, either in defence of it or in opposition to it. Only ourselves will know where victory goes. Evil thrive where good men fail to act. Kudos to the men and women defending libery in all parts of the globe. Some day, there is gonna be a cessation to all wars, amen...

I'm an anti-war person, but that was freakin' hilarious, I would have totally laughed my a** off if I heard an old lady say that! LMAO! Oh man, only in the US will hear a person say that to another! LOL

Just to stir the pot a bit though, people don't fight in wars so that others have the right to bad mouth their country. No matter who rules a country, people would bad mouth it anyway, thats just the way some people are.

i find it funny that people think that we were fighting for OUR rights in Nam and Korea, we certainly were not, we were fighting for trade interests. The same is going on right now in Iraq, we are not fighting for our rights at all. But the real funny part of the whole thing is that people tend to think that governments give us our rights, that is false false false, we inherently have rights, they are not bestowed upon us. i have the right to bad mouth the current president because he has led us down the wrong road, not because some people tragically died in Vietnam.

it's funny, if you aren't already angry at the government for Korea and Vietnam. But if the punchline was only WWII it wouldn't have near the impact.

Nobody died in Nam supporting our freedoms, they died preserving trade interests. That makes me hurt for the families and mad at the US.
