Yes, he was a horrible torturer, and bloodthirsty.
He used chemical weapons on his own people.
But was GHW Bush wise to leave him in power?
Could only great fear keep Iraq stable enough not to explode?
Look at Iraq now. Total chaos. People fleeing for their lives.

Yes they were. Remember what is important is to realize how well the majority is doing and before 1990 Iraq was a very prosperous and civilized country with a very well-educated citizen base.

Almost every country has minorities that want independence (look at Basques in Spain, Quebeqois in Canada) and other anti-government critics. Yes, it is true that Saddam was an evil person who killed a lot of dissenters, but that is not different from the government in many Asian and African countries. Do we plan to change all of them?

Regardless, have you heard of the idea of a sovereign nation? Iraq was a sovereign nation and one country can NOT intervene directly in the internal affairs of another country, even if Saddam was openly murdering millions of people. By the same token, if Hitler only killed Jews in Germany and Austria, the only power the rest of the countries had was to punish him (and likewise Iraq) economically and politically.

But US has gotten into the nasty old Soviet habbit of intervening in other country's business viz a viz, Vietnam, China, Iran (in 1953) and Iraq (Soviet Union did a lot of this in Easter Europe and in Afghanistan in the 50-70's).

in case you have been a recommend Iraqi decrease than the rule of thumb of Saddam did you're able to desire to undertaking approximately being shot down interior the line with the help of dying squads daily? i don't think of so. maximum of people create a front that Iraq grew to become right into a detrimental place decrease than Saddam's administration. i'm not asserting it grew to become into Utopia, yet there grew to become right into a level of stability for the common Iraqi citizen. in uncomplicated terms the unconventional Iraqis that got down to reason undertaking for Saddam had to be concerned approximately their lives and the lives of their households. Saddam created an phantasm of ability and authority in Iraq that they have got been keen to settle for. That phantasm is now long gone and we could desire to attempt to %. up the products and return order to a rustic torn with the help of civil conflict.

Those days are gone, and few in the US believe that Bush is doing a good job in the war on Iraq. (28%) The real question is what to do now, so that a regional war does not erupt when US troops leave.

Most likely. That's what Kofi Annan said. Pretty much every one says that. The things happening in Iraq right now are terrible. I can't believe that there are people around the world that support Bush's policies.

Yes.
Except for the hundreds of thousands that were slaughtered and poison-gassed.
And all the thousands in mass graves that the coalition dug up.
And except for the thousands of girls that were raped by Saddams troops.
A good life.
