I have seen several questions in where people answer a question by using the argument that the father signed the birth certificate so he is “ ……”
I am not aware of any state in which the father actually signs the birth certificate. Does anyone else know of any?

I personally don’t know of any state where the father actually signs the birth certificate (although there may be some), but if a couple is unmarried then he does have to sign an acknowledgment of paternity/declaration of paternity/affidavit of paternity/whatever it’s called in that particular state in order for his name to be on the birth certificate. Once he’s signed that, then he is the legal father of the child. THAT is normally what people *really* mean when they say ‘he signed the birth certificate’.

If the father and mother are "not" married the father will have to sign the birth certificate for the child to carry his last name.

You are right. You do not physically sign the certificate. They actually just ask the mother who the father is and list him on it.

If the mom is unmarried, the putative father has to agree to be listed in order to be on the BC in order to have rights and responsibilities. If the couple is married, the hubby is presumed to be the father by law and so his name goes oin automatically.
