1. Claude Monet - French Impressionism
Wow! What a painter. no artist in the world knew how to capture nature in such a stunning, simple, and romantic way. My favorite of his works is "Impression: Sunrise" (1872).

2. Edgar Degas - French Impressionism
Another pioneer. He drew ballerinas, bathing women, and jockeys. Never have I seen works that portrayed these subjects as wonderfully as Degas did.

3. John Singer Sargent - American Realism
He is a realist alright, but he painted modernly, in the Impressionist style, just to keep up with the art trends back at that time, and the competition perhaps. However, he painted great landscapes and portrayed buildings so romantically.

4. Paul Cezanne - French Postimpressionism
His works are so full of life, color, and simplicity. He was a great painter whose art theories influenced many other movements, such as Cubism, which was launched by Pablo Picasso.

5. Vincent van Gogh - Dutch Postimpressionism
Combine mentally challenged and creativity, you'll get Van Gogh! Although he lived a terrible life, and never sold but one painting while still alive, his fast brush strokes, lurid colors, and sharp linear details are breathtaking.

Too many! But if I had to choose...

1. Michelangelo
2. Caravaggio
3. Gentileschi
4. de Lempicka
5. Mucha

I also love Hieronymus Bosch and many Art Deco and Art Nouveau artists. Also, Frank Lloyd Wright but he's an architect so I don't know if that counts under "artists" technically. But he was definitely a master. :-) Sorry, I can't pick only 5!
