Obviously there are exceptions to my statement, alot of NFL players aren't fat, but have muscle, however linemen are fat.

Also some baseball players aren't fat but many have beer guts that would make them a laughing stock in any other sport exept curling

The reason, as I understand it, is because in the early days many managers were player/managers, so they were of course required to be in uniform if they were to be on the field. I got sort of the same explanation from Wikipedia, so thought I would quote it here for you: Player-managers were common, but non-playing managers whose realm was strictly the dugout often wore business suits, a common occurrence at the time. Retired players who became managers were more likely to continue to wear a baseball uniform (John McGraw, for example), especially if they were also active on the coaching lines; managers often doubled as third-base coach. By the late 1940s, nearly all managers were wearing baseball uniforms. Connie Mack was the last major league manager to wear a suit in the dugout until his retirement in the early 1950s; however, in contrast to the uniform-wearing managers, Mack rarely if ever stepped onto the field during a game; instead he sent uniformed coaches onto the field when a managerial presence outside the dugout was required. I understand that after Connie Mack, the rules were made to require the manager and anyone in the dugout to wear the team uniform. This is pretty much the same today, but of course trainers, etc, seem to have the right to simply be identifies as such, and are permitted in the dugout like that.

I don't know about baseball, but I figure this is only my opion but I think it's becuse alot of them thinki that stength can help hitting Homeruns,l but not nessasayally, It matters more on the timeing of the swing, and where on the bat you hit it on.
And as for The N.F,L the teams themselfs incoure bigness the bigger the better ever since Refriarator ( Willium Perry7 ) played for the Bears in the Mid to early late 80's, the players got bigger and stronger, now It seems like every team has someone who's over 300 Pounds!!!.

basesball only requires short term bursts of energy such as running from one base to another. Pitchers in the AL can be huge like Wells is. NFL players who are huge are usually lineman who use the power of weight in short bursts of energy during each play and almost never have to run the field. There are some really big guys who are in good shape, such as fullbacks, who are also very fit. Worst case player is the amateur softball players you can find on Sundays at the park...wow what a bunch of slobs.

Could you actually name some fat MLB players that are not DHs?
Football players considered "fat" like Flozell Adams and Larry Allen use their girth to dominate. But you're right, i don't think there are any people more fit than curlers.

football players are big and fat because some positions require alot of size. fat people are hard to move. baseball players are fat, i guess because it doesnt require alot of running, its mostly bulk not fat with baseball players.
