I am a 21 year old female who has a strong desire to pierce my nose. Nothing outrageous, just a small discreet stud. However I am currently studying at unviesity with the objective of entering the coporate legal world, and am wondering can i still pierce my nose, or would it ruin my employment opportunities?? I am interested to hear you views and experiences xxxx

Dont do it not yet anyway some employers are cool with that kind of things but others not so much so wait until you have the job and find out if they have any policy against that type thing first if sallgood and no policy do it if not then at least it has not impeded you in any way.

There are two issues. Firstly, formally most employers would say they don't mind providing you look smart. And you can always take the piercing out.

However, I would like to make a dffferent point from a perspective as an occupational psychology graduate. Interviewers are often , sorry - always, unconsciously influenced. Research shows that first impressions are hugely important in interviews: employers use subsequent information to justify their initial impressions, although they would deny this. And at this level a nose stud might matter. And you would worry about whether it was going to matter - you could never know.

I would like to say it should be up to you how you look. But to be honest I cannot.

I used to share digs with a law student. I am afraid your prospective profession is very picky: if you do not like that perhaps you would be happier doing something else.

Generally nose piercings seem to be accepted, I know loads of girls with them and no one seems to worry about it. It's eyebrow and lip piercings that seem to put people off for some reason. I guess it also depends on the employer and if you're going to be client facing etc. I want to get my lip pierced but have been with holding for the similar reasons, unfortunately as I wanna teach I doubt I'll pull it off lol! I'd say get it done, any worthwhile emplyer shouldn't mind it. I think the little studs look cute anyway :o)

Put yourself in the eyes of the general public of this world, would you trust someone representing you in a court of law that looked like a human pincushion? I know I wouldn't but that's just my own opinion.

Also, can you imagine yourself as a 60 year old with a pierced nose / tattoo? It's your choice but it is frowned on by a lot of the older generation / larger companies.

If you are of Indian appearance then there should be no problem. If you are nt of this ethnicity then I would say some people may bear a stigma towards you for this piercing. 99% of people should be fine with it though but there is a chance it may hurt your career.

it depends on which job you want but places where you might be making and serving food wont except facial piercings of any sort.

im not sure about legal professions but most places want to look professional and piercings and tattoos that are visable arent accepted im most work places.

its the reason why i wont get my eyebrow pierced as most companies want you to take the piercings out.

I would not personally consider employing anyone with a nose ring . a small stud maybe.

If you get the peircing done now, it will be healed by the time you get degree/job, so go for it , you don't have to wear it to work- keep it for when you want to- don't let it stop doing what you want to , just adapt it to your lifestyel.
