I work in California, and my Employer just told us today 12-13-06 that on 12-26- 12-27 and 12-28 we are basiclly forced to take those days off..and they said to get paid we need to use our vacation time...is this right? i mean i can't afford this i mean if i had more notice maybe but with christmas and rent and stuff i just can't do it...but i don't want to use my vacation time, i will if i have to ...is there a law about this somwhere??? thanks for your help!!

Actually, they can do it. Employment in america is "at will", which means you can leave (or they can fire you) anytime they want. Two (2) weeks notice is just a formality, in actuality you can quit your job today, walk out and never come back. As far as time off is concerned, if the company is shutting down they do not have to pay you. Of course, they are being nice by asking you to use some of your vacation as to limit the damage. It sucks I know, and if it was me I would probably be looking for a job that gave me more notice.
