I feel as if some people think it is their duty to police the public. I always thought that is why we had...ummm...Police? They seem to try and look for and correct misbehavior or breaking the law...even though what the offender is doing doesn't even affect them. Why is this?

Yes, sometimes I drive too fast, smoke weed, J-walk, drink too much (but not drive), etc. It's just the way I am. I can't stand it when someone says, "Ummm...hello...ummm...you really...shouldn't be doing that...ummm...because..." It's like, "WHO CARES...WHO ARE YOU AGAIN?" If you are a cop...fine, give me a ticket or take me to jail...whatever. If not, please move along...no really...move alone...Buh-bye now...That's right...Buh-Bye...

Why do some people find the need to mother people and try to get them to conform. I just let people be. I already understand that I can't change someone who doesn't want to change. Why don't other people get this?

Because this country is so wrapped up in our "rights" that we now feel as though those "rights" extend to voicing our unsolicitated opinions on everything. If you aren't hurting anyone other than your self then it's no one elses business what you are doing. For instance, I am a hospice nurse, I am "married" to my cell phone because I am on call all the time. If I weren't I would throw the stupid thing in the trash(I remember the time when I could drive from point a to point b and not give a happy damn what anyone was doing during the time it took to get from one place to another). When I am in a doctors office I always tell the receptionist that I am on call and my CP is on vibrate. Almost everytime the receptionist tells me "that's fine, we only have the no cell phone signs to keep the noise down, if your's rings you can answer it." If it rings I try to get up and go into a rest room or step outside the door. I sit away from other patient's, and I cup my hand around the phone and speak very softly. In short I bust my *** to make sure I don't disturb anyone. You guessed it, the CP police are always around the one or two times a year my phone rings in the doctor's office. Yesterday as a matter of fact it rang, a patient's family was on the other end hysterical the patient was actually dying at that moment and some old man walked up to me and said very loudly" You need to get off that phone. Those signs mean you too!" My scrub top says the name of my hospice, I have my badge on that says I am an RN. So, hey, what the hell. Do what you wanna do. You are never, ever, going to get away from the "Civilian Police Patrol".

For the most part, I just let people act as stupid as they want--it makes me look so much better by comparison.

Those times I do stick my nose in someone else's business, I do so for other reasons: If I see a bunch of teenagers jumping around a mall playground and come within six inches of my kid's head, I'm going to say something! If I see some idiot 12-year old spray silly string at perfect strangers, I'm going to say something. If I can hear the neighbors having sex every freaking night, I'm going to say something. Stuff like that.

i think if they are concentrating on your behavior they don't have to think about their own. pay no attention unless you're being told change something about your behavior because it's dangerous to others. of course, listen to your mother. she's allowed to mother you.
