Seriously. I'm curious.

There's a black history month, but where's white history month? And don't say it's every other month cause that's just absurd.

There's a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), but where's the National Association for the Advancement of White People?

I mean really... there's a National Council of ***** Women, an African American Womens Assocation... c'mon!

I truly wonder how black people would react to a White History Month, or a White People Only Scholarship award, or something to that effect.

So when I don't get the scholarship for the sole reason that I'm not black, and that's just okay, would those black people just be hunky dorey with the fact that they didn't get the white scholarship because they're not white?

I know not. Obviously it's good one way but bad the other. Oh, the justice in the world today.

Comment me, flame me, answer the question. I dun care. I just wanna know what you think.

You need to ask the people who granted this month to us. Your government that you more than likely voted for. I think people ask these questions to see how many responses they can get. There are so many things you can focus on. By dwelling and asking questions like this you are labeling yourself as a racist and that is a shame because in the end you have to answer to God. Can you say that he will like what he sees? That's what you should be asking. You shouldnt worry about these things..seriously. And as far as scholarships, did you stand up and say anything when we coudlnt even attend your schools, eat at your restaurants, use your waterfountains, sit in the back of your bus because of the color of our skin. How do you know we have all these things? Stay out of our business and then you wouldnt have to ask questions like this.

Ok, i don't know whether to answer this question or just leave you in the dark closet you've been living in. I'm not saying every month is white history month, but as an African American college student I can truly say that all of my life, especially in grade school, we were bombarded in history class with white faces that "changed the world," like we had no part in the shaping of America. Every single day in history class there was another white man or german guy that helped build America and there was no mention of how his country was built on our ancestors backs...literally. I didnt even know what slavery was until the 3rd grade, they simply choose to omit ugly truths or skim over them with the excuse that there are too many time constraints.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe there's not a "National Association for the Advancement of White People" because there's nowhere left for white people to advance? I mean, what would a group like that advocate? And if Im not mistaken that is a surname of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), if that's what you're after. "White People Only Scholarships" for what, if you already own the schools? And if they are HBCUs, you can get scholarships reserved for white students b/c in that effect you're in the minority. The whole "White Only" ideaitself is not a new one....Jim Crowe laws proved that.

Its good one way and bad the other because thats how the world is, unfair. You're upset with the fact that there arent equal programs or treatment, or whatever it is you're complaining about but you seem to be "hunky dorey" with 300 years of slavery and the ensuing years of oppression and unequal treatment that are still felt today.

Question yourself b4 you question the way the world is, you're only looking at it from one side of the spectrum. Leave your comfort zone and put yourself in someone elses shoes for a change. Hatred and misunderstandings like this fuel ignorance, and ignorance is never something you should strive to obtain.

You know, I think that some of the people who responded as well the person asking the question are very ignorant. Anyways, there is a Black History month to honor those IMPORTANT and INFLUENTIAL black people who have made a difference. And another thing, the reason why there are racial-based scholarships is to help out unfortunate students from different ethic backgrounds. I have experienced this. When I graduated from high school, I had a 3.6 GPA and a 25 on my ACT. I signed up for the scholarship, but it was given to a WHITE student. And the killing part is that he only had a 3.2 GPA with a 20 on the ACT.

So people need to cut the bullshit. That is why so much racism goes on. White people want black people to feel inferior of them. But I am one person that is NOT!

Since we're on racism, I hate it when I get evil glares from white AND black people, when I am with my boyfriend. People need to grow up. If I choose to like a guy that is biracial, but appears white, then that is my business.

Now that should answer anyone's questions about my opinion on racism.

I can't even begin to try and get my head around the whole thing. I completely agree that we have been made to feel bad for what our ancestors did. In Canada growing up all we heard was that the white settlers were horrible people that ousted the Blacks and Natives. It's too bad that from the beginning we couldn't have just been taught the histories of all of these groups, even if it was as it related to the white settlers.

I mean, yes our ancestors did bad things to minority groups of different races, but the British in Canada and the Americans were also horrendously discriminatory against the Irish - yet this topic never comes up. I don't know why this is.

It's all just such a confusing jumble. I mean, I always used to be really bitter that there was a BET and magazines, other media for Blacks, but it is true that the majority of magazines feature white models, and we also have a number of publications devoted to different groups such as Irish/Scottish descendents. There are magazines about Loyalist-leaning Canadians and Americans. It's a desire to learn about ones own culture and heritage, and it's too bad that it has become such a contentious issue.

I realize that this answer is a ramble, but I guess I have learned that I can't really have an opinion on this either way until I have walked a mile in the shoes of someone who has gone through such blatant oppression in their own lifetime.

It's called artificial balancing. You may not want to hear it but white history IS covered in the remaining 11 months of the year. Why is something so simple so hard for you to understand? What happens everytime a black family sitcom is put on a predominantly white channel? It gets cancelled or moved to a more ethnic station which is why we have our own stations catered to the black community. It's the only way we can get represented as much as white people. That's why there is a Latino Channel also and hopefully an Asian channel will come about soon. Maybe when your race becomes a minority one day you'll understand and then you can have your White History Month and WET until then the minorities are going to have their own months and stations so that we will be represented as much as the majority. Deal with it =)

I'm guessing that you are a young person. I will tell you that for most of my life, people who were not white did not have all of those things you mention. The NAACP, for example won integration of Public Schools when I was a kid. Before that Black kids could not attend a White school. Before the 1970's Black people were not mentioned in history books, so it was important to have a month set aside to remind people that it was not only Whites who built this country. There are certainly plenty of scholarships for non-Black students - thousands of them. There were very few, if any available in the past to non-Whites. It is really a good thing that you don't understand all this, because it means that all of the blood, sweat and tears of the Civil Rights Movement have paid off. It must seem to you that things have been this good for Black people for your whole life. We are heading in the right direction.

I don't know if you've noticed. But, white is the standard for EVERYTHING in this country. Schools teach white history every day of the year. Sorry, but its true. If it weren't for Black History Month, no one would know anything about black history.
As far as the NAACP, that organization was started because of the unfair treatment of blacks in this country. True, the civil rights movement has ended, but racism and unfair treatment has not.
And yes... there are scholarship funds for white people. Do your research, google it, Its out there. None of these organizations are considered Black Supremacy groups, so there is no racism involved. You'll find plenty of things that are just white. It may not say it blatantly in the title of the organization, but they are definitely there.

It seems that AMERICAN history has been forgotten. How would whites like not getting jobs based on the color of their skin? Or how would whites like being forced to sit on the back of a bus? Or being snatched from their homes and forced into slavery in a distant and foreign land? Or if there was a Black Supremacist group, that made it a regular activity of hanging white people from trees with little to no legal repercussion.

What would white people do if they tried to attend a black school, but got rocks thrown at them.

My point is Blacks have had a regular history of struggle and oppression caused largely by White People, plain and simple. That oppression continues today (although not as overt) out of fear and to keep that imbalance of power. All Blacks want is an equal opportunity, because believe it or not we are trying to make something out of ourselves, just like White People.

And yes, every other month is White History Month.

But despite that, Black History Month is set aside for recognition and for pride. If not, there would be very little recognition of the contributions of Blacks. I was taught the "melting pot" in high school, which really is the "melting" away of ETHNIC differences to conform to the white majority. What if everyone was forced to eat with Chopsticks? What then???

This question is often asked by White People who are ignorant to racism in America. When I say "ignorant to racism" that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Racism or hatred based on skin color may be an absurd idea to you. And I know White People who don't see skin color. However, racism is alive and well. So through visibility comes acceptance.

But it is important to recognize the history and talents of ALL individuals in whatever way possible that doesn't oppress anyone else.

That's one thought from one Afican American.

Without trying to insult you, you should simply crack open a history book, grade school, middle school and high school, 95% of American history is from the White race, even when studying the Slave days it is White person dominant. So having a White month doesnt make much sense, if all our history is ALREADY white race dominant.
As far as the College fund issue, back in the day ( and I am not talking about to long ago either) it was very difficult for a black person to compete in the race hate filled world for college scholorships, it has only been a mere couple of decades that some southern colleges were still segregated. So they came up with a college fund soley for a specific race. Thank God things are changing for the better if we can get past racial views and uneducated rants such as yours.
