Agents usually take clients with a good acting CV.
They occasionally take on someone just finished an acredited drama course.
If you are just starting out you will need to train.
It is a job like any other and requires a period of apprenticeship.
This forum is pretty useless as you'll just get nutters telling you to call agents and casting organisations and it simply doesn't work this way.
If you go to www.thestage.co.uk the forum 'Stagetalk' is broken down into areas including training and agents and you will get people in the business writing about your sort of query.

The best resource for agent's info is a small periodical call "The Ross Reports". It's put out by the acting newspaper "Backstage" which also posts audition notices weekly.
In Los Angeles only, There is a Publication called "the Agencies" that is better than Ross and More detailed.
Ross is Used mostly in NYC, but it has nationwide entries if you buy the national edition.
Keep in mind, few reputable agents will accept blind submissions or phone calls. Having an in helps tremendously.
Good Luck!

Ask your acting teacher or other actors. After that, you can look for an agent. How much acting experience do you have. Do you have a strong resume with many acting roles. Do you have a good, recent headshot?
How old are you? You can't enter into a contract with an agent, until you are of legal age. Your parents must sign all legal documents for you.

make sure when you get and agent they don't want any money up front or what you to use there photographer. If they ask for money they only get 20% of what you make after they get you work . If your with the SAG they can only take 10% of your money when they get you work . Look in your local phone book for agents under theatre .Or where the modeling schools are .

Go to your local library and ask for the reference desk. When the Liberian asks: How may I help you? Tell him/her that I am interested in acting career and I need some agents telephone numbers. It's that simple, Jack Nicholson.
