HI I HAVE A GOLDFISH A BLACK MOORE
AND I PUT HIM ON SALT FOR THE PAST WEEK BECAUSE SOME ONE AT ALL EXPERTS TOLD ME TO DO SO FOR HIS FUNGUS .
. WELL LAST NIGHT HE STARTED ACTING STRANGE BREATHIN HARD AND STAYIN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK , IN THE MORING AROUND 2AM HE STARTED ACTING LIKE HE WAS DIEING SO I TOOK HIM OUT OF THE TANK AND PUT HIM IN SOME NEW WATER IN A BUCKET HE LOOKS REALLY BAD HE'S JUST LAYING THERE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BUCKET HARDLY BREATHING IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR HIM ??PLEASE HELP BEFOR HE PASS'S AWAY I HAVE HAD THIS FISH FOR 2 YEARS ...

I USED API AQUARIUM SALT 1 TEASPOON BECAUSE HE IS IN A 10 GALLON TANK I DID A 20% WATER CHANGE EVERYDAY AND THEN ADDED 20% OF THE TEASPOON ...I KNOW THAT A WEEK SOUNDS LIKE A LONG TIME BUT THE PEOPLE AT ALL EXPERTS TOLD ME TO DO IT FOR 14 DAYS...

Put your fish in water that has no salt in it. make sure to keep the water well oxygenated and have a filter circulating it. it should be fine as long as everything in the water is in balance (neautral ph, no ammonia, etc) also try and do some water changes in the bucket because some of teh salt in the fishes body might be moving into the new water. best of luck!

Salt is not the miracle product that many claim it to be. A little in the water (like 1 tsp pre 3 gallons) can be beneficial to certain fish like mollies, but most freshwater fish, just don't need it, unless you're treating for Ich.
Salt will not cure fungus. You can put a little in the water (at most, 1 tbsp / 5 gallons) help keep the wounds clean, but you need to try fungus with antibiotics. If your fish recovers from the salt shock, use Maracyn-2.
A salt bath in generally used for fish which have the Ich parasite, or the Velvet parasite. These are killed by salt, and putting a fish in a bowl with their water, and slowly adding salt water, can kill some of the parasites that are on their gills and scales, making them feel better. But they should not be in for more than 30 minutes or so, because freshwater fish regulate the amount of salt in their bodies based on being adapted to fresh water. They cannot regulate it in water with too much salt, and the salter water tends to just suck the water right out of the fish's body.
All you can do it put him in clean, well aerated water and hope he makes it. Goldfish are hardy, so he has a chance. I hope he is okay!

How much salt did you put in the tank with him? There definitely is such a thing as a salt overdose, which has the potential to kill a freshwater fish. The rule for salting a tank for medicinal purposes is 1 tablespoon of freshwater aquarium rock salt per 10 gallons. Don't use table salt as it can contain trace elements such as iodine and potassium, which are harmful to fish in any quantity. The best thing you can do for your fish at the moment, if you did over salt the tank, is allow it to stay in the fresh water. Other than that, there isn't much you can do at this point as the damage has probably already been done.

how much salt did you put in (??? per gallon). if it was a salt bath he should NOT have been in for a week. if it was jsut adding a samll amount to the water it does help keep them healthy, but you have to use special kinds of salt. what kind did you use? for fungus you should get medicine that treats fungus. there should be plenty at the pet stores that say fungus treatment. give a bit more info and I'd be happy to help.

no, that wouldn't kill him...
and a salt bath should kill him either..if you dip him in a salt solution for less then a minute and then return him back in the tank....
but I don't think salt is a cure for fungus... it cure some skin parasites but that's it...
you should have just bought fungus meds at the store for him...
he might die soon... just leave him alone.. the more stress you put the guy through, the sicker he'll get..
Just do regular water changes and add fungus meds..

I wish I would have found this two days ago-same thing is happening to me-how did your fish turn out? I am very worried and will never use salt for any cure again-I hope your fish did alright to give me some hope for mine!!!

hello, salt is good for goldfish yes. its treats and prevents alot of problems. but, salt does not evaporate and if you continue to add salt then yes its a salt over dose. salt should be given once a week after a water change. this prevents salt build up in tank. i hope this info helps maybe he will perk up but by the sounds of it i think its too late.

Did you decholorinate the water you put him in? I never heard of salt water for goldfish you need to get him into some decholorinated water STAT
