My husband and I have been trying to concieve. I just found out today that I have to have my gallbladder removed. It is not time for my period, I just finished ovulating. I'm afraid I will go through the implantation process (and not realize it) before my surgery. What would happen? Would I misscarry? Would it make a difference? Am I worrying about nothing?

I have the consultation tomorrow. I'm sure he will ask me if I could be pregnant.
I'm not going to take any answer as concrete....I'm just wondering, If I should put the surgery off until I either get or miss my period to be sure. The Dr. said it isn't something I have to rush but the sooner it comes out the better....

Talk to your doctor, but you may be worrying for nothing.
Most gall bladder surgery these days is done with a laprascope -- small tubes inserted into 2 spots on your upper stomach and one through your belly button. (I guess the locations can vary a bit, but usually not by much)
The gall bladder is snipped out of it's place and literally sucked out through a tube inserted through one of the incisions. If you think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor and the anestheseologist. This surgery is usually done on an out-patient basis and doesn't require an overnight stay. You may feel sore of a couple of days (I felt like I had done about 500 sit-ups!), but you should be fine.
My mother found that pregnancy can make gall bladder pain worse (& trust me, it can be very painful at times without being pregnant). She went through 8 pregnancies before finally getting her gall bladder out (yes -- I know, a 'martyr', but that's my Mom). Check w/your doctor, but a minimally invasive surgery such as this shouldn't effect a pregnancy as long as you are a healthy woman. Obviously, it is ultimately your decision what you do.
Best of luck with your surgery and (hopefully) your pregnancy. :-)

I would suggest that you let your Dr. know that you have been trying to conceive (which he should already know about). Surgery can cause a miscarriage, but you never know...pregnancies have survived through a lot more. Get in contact with your Dr and see if it will be a problem if there is anyway to reschedule your surgery until later when it could be safe. Good luck either way! Happy Conceiving!

Of course there is always a risk to your unborn child when you go under anesthesia, the risk is greater depending on what part of pregnancy you are in. I had my gallbladder removed when I was 24 weeks pregnant. The whole experience was very scary for me. I was unable to have sedatives before I went under and then I went into labor, which they thankfully were able to stop. I would talk to your doctor about all possibilities. Good luck!

I just had laparoscopic surgery to remove an ovarian cyst and since I have been ttc my Dr. and I decided to schedule the surgery for after I would have gotten my next period. If it turned out I was pregnant we would have just canceled it.

They will ask you if there is a chance you may be pregnant... and then you say Yes, there is a chance. They will do a blood test and then give you options from that point.

Let the dr know that you may be pregnant so they can take precautions.
