I personally find it offensive and counterproductive when a comedian thinks he or she has to pepper his/her routine with profanity. It also shows a lack of vocabulary skills and lack of class. They may even be somewhat intelligent, but by persistent use of those foul words they make themselves appear uneducated and unsophisticated.

Cuz it's funny.

Actually, they all seem to think that it shocks people. They like to think of themselves as people who are affecting social change, just don't ask them whether it's positive or negative. The truth is, if someone is funny, they don't need to use that kind of language to get a laugh.

I agree. I'm not bothered if they use some profanity but these days what's considered funny is if you have this whole character about you that's just out of line. People think they're laughing at, well, a joke, but in reality they're laughing because that's the kind of society they're turning toward. I don't know how other people don't get tired of it either, when the comedian's main aura is produced by profanity. I can have a little laugh but when the whole bit works off of it, I feel like they don't have any real material and just need something else to stun the audience with.

Anyway, to me that issue just fits into the big glob of issues that I think exist in the world where people are too afraid to go against something so they end up forcing themselves to become a part of it, which just gives producters a reason to continue the trend. It's too bad that many people like me and you end up feeling like we're by ourselves in our thoughts because of how movie and TV producers, groups of people in general, are pushing along the "popular" concepts these days, no matter how dumb they are.

One of the things that triggers laughter is the resolution of an unknown situation that does not harm us. This is why babies laugh at peek-a-boo, or tickling. These are potentialy dangerous situations that turn out good. This is also why one does not laugh when 'the jokes on you'. The use of harsh language makes the setup of the joke more dangerous feeling. It creates an atmosphere of uncertian danger. We don't know what the comedian will say next. It is a mystery. Tame language would be the equivalent of a tame amusement park ride. While still being enjoyable, it is much easier to get a rush on an extreme ride. Similarly, extreme language adds to the excitement.

I just went to a comedy club last week. The person used the F word and the B word to much. I think it depends where they come from and how they where brought up and their style of comedy. I also think it has to deal with how smart they are. Cuss words grabs someones attention. If they need to use cuss words or put people down. I think its a cheap way to get a laugh. I won't be going back to the club myself.

They think it makes them seem cool but really only shows how ignorant they are by having to resort to garbage mouth to get laughs. Also shows the audience that is laughing at it is ignorant also to be wanting to hear such garbage. Like Robin Williams is one of the funniest guys I have seen in a long time but I heard some of his stuff not on the TV or movies and he puts himself down for using such filth. If people did not go see them or buy the tapes or DVD's, they would eventually stop it and clean up their act.
