Why are we always helping the poor in other countries? Shouldn't we be taking care of our own. I'm totally sympathetic but a little selfish with respects to our own house. I think we should focus our efforts on our own before we move to the next challenge. Our homless and poor for the most part are hidden and helpless.

Just like at your own house really. You can't give to charity until you feed your own children. I agree with you. And why should we send aid to people who hate us anyway? All they do is badmouth us.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Merry Christmas!!

We do help the homeless and disadvantaged in America. Most of the programs are designed to be a temporary program until the people can become more self-sufficient, but many people live off the system.

I think it is a good idea to assist other countries as well. It helps our own economy, and it's the right thing to do.

We don't always know how to help. We have a few treatments for mental conditions, but no cures. We have effective treatments for addictions, but they have to be voluntary. We have aid to single parents, but we can't make the fathers of the children help. Mant physically handicapped people are perfectly willing and able to work, but can't find jobs. There are people working low skilled jobs that can't 'move up the ladder' because they can't get further training.
Unfortunately, the people we see are the few that are ''in your face" wanting a hand out.
Any ideas?

Can your country afford not look after the poor in other countries? You obtain their resources very cheaply. You forces your language culture onto them. Sometimes you use your potent military, intelligence, recreational and commercial forces to turn their minds in your favour. Your actions leave these countries vulnerable. In other words your shouldn't invest in their poverty. You should rather look after your own and give them a chance to develop, be proud of their own and be proud of their existence. Don't see yourself selfish! Like me a father of 4 and a husband of 1.

This isolationist ideology may sound great on the surface. But if you were dig deeper into the reasons we help other countries, you might see that we actually are helping ourselves in the long run. Doing what we do gives us leverage. It's more out of power rather than out of civic duty that we "lend a helping hand". It makes us look good in the process too.

My dear friend, you don't help anyone! The only thing you do is disembarkation to other countries. First the so call help that goes to the pockets of the local politicians mostly, for bribery, then the army and after that, the cause of all, giants of your companies to do business. 40 years ago you "helped" us with a dictatorship and we are still paying your banks. So, please do something in your country, protest for example, to let us help ourselves. I think Iraq will appreciated it. That was not a pure country. 20 years ago was the 3rd most reach country in the world. We can see the results after your help today.

The poor in the US in no way compare to the poor in many 3rd world countries. You can see the truth of that when so many of our poor people are fat, not starving and emaciated from lack of food like in many other countries.

Have you ever been to a poor country? If you have, you should know that the poor people in rich countries have a lot.

The poverty in America is caused by lazy fat people, whereas other countries actually don't have a chance to live a happy life. I mean, unless it was a retarded bum, I would say the bum WANTS to be a bum, he COULD go and get him/herself a job, but they is too darn lazy (yes, I'm aware of the grammatical error, that was added for effect).

May be we should deal with our own issues before trying to solve some one elses
