I know the feeling, it seems as though every program you install wants to go online, windows defender (free at microsoft.com) has a tool that shows programs that are using the internet, also your task manager shows your connection activity, and which programs are running. probably just alot of "looking for updates" so when you identify which programs are running you can disable automatic update feature on these programs. Hope this helps.

Type "Netstat" in the dos prompt, or download the program WireShark to monitor your internet traffic. Turn off everything and make sure there is no HTTP traffic going somewhere it shouldn't.
