Which is worse, taking sides or remaining neutral during a conflict?

I often take sides, being neutral means I am scared to speak my mind.

Neutrality -ensures that the judgement being passed is an impartial one. However, it is an easy route to making enemies ..Friends often conclude that you are fencesitter seeking to escape accountability. However though the lack of accountability that is an attribute of neutrality appears to be a demerit of taking such a stand, it puts you in a position of power to deny any half-truths involving yourself that may used by one of the disputing parties to give a fillip to his argument.The neutral stand puts you in a position of credibility in the minds of both parties (grudgingly) and any third or fourth party adjudicating on the matter. I would consciously advocate taking a neutral position wherever possible except when you feel that you are in full authority to make a just and fair judgement. Neutrality simply means saying that you are not completely sure and hence cannot pass a judgement. Taking sides invariably leads to a loss of one or more of the friendships/relationships at stake.If that is not of any concern to you or if you know that whatever judgement you pass (if it is in the negative) will in turn ,prove to be beneficial for the third party *(Eg concurring with yor spouse / partner on parental decisions) then it is advisable to take the side of the party advocating the argument that may seem to be harsh prima facie... as it is a case of being 'cruel to be kind'

Maybe you mean to "act neutral" rather than remain neutral. If you truly are neutral in a conflict, why not be true to yourself, kick back and enjoy the show. If you'd like to drive the peace, be a mediator and understand both sides, even though one side may appear "wrong" to you. Don't be scared to speak your mind...that helps to keep it active.

i think its better to remain neutral. when you take sides, youre putting yourself into the conflict. if someones life is in danger, then i think its best to take sides and help that person.
