Looking at the hunger and the consistency of scoring centuries after centuries in test series Ponting is the only batsman capable of maintaining the pace and achieving more than 45 centuries in tests in 5 years.

Ponting currently has 33 centuries, so he would need another 7.

Barring injuries, I believe in the form he is in, he will have another 5 years in the game. I have looked up stats to see centuries per year since 2002.

2002 - 5
2003 - 6
2005 - 6
2006 - 7

So since 2002 he has 24 centuries in 5 years (including 0 in 2004).

My predictions -

1 more in 2006
2007 - 4
2008 - 6
2009 - 6
2010 - 4
2011 - 2

That would mean he would have 40 make another 22 in total, giving him 54 for his career.
