Because until Fox news came along they had a strangle hold on the mainstream media... its the same reason they hate talk radio.
Liberals dont like the free market where people actully have a reqal choice in what they watch and listen too, because when people have the information, and a choice they turn away from the liberals.
Fox news isnt all that conservative anyway, it just seems like it because of how liberal everyone else is...

I like fox because they show both sides of the issue. Talk shows like O'Reilly and Hannity & Combs are just talk shows like Larry King. Hannity & Combs is interesting because they both take turns asking hardball and softball questions to the guest.
CNN and MSNBC does not really do that with their guests. So that is probably why it is more popular.

I am a liberal who started watching/reading fox news after the election - their coverage was just so much more detailed and comprehensive than MSNBC and CNN. But over the last few weeks I find myself drawn to it less and less, not because of a bias but because they sensationalize trivial stories and downplay key ones. I think what did it for me was when they referred to their extensive coverage of Brittany Spears as 'Pantygate' (really? is that necessary?) and the latest coverage of a pornstar's trademark issues.
They did so much right on election night - I am very sorry to see they cannot live up to that standard.

The ratings argument is nonsense. FOX News has high ratings for CABLE news - but pales in comparison to network news - and really pales in comparison to totally brainless shows like "Deal or No Deal" or "Dancing with the Stars".
The problem with FOX News is that it's an insular bubble of disinformation aimed at a target audience who has no real interest in critical thinking or the truth. The audience it's targeted at believes what they believe - and want justification to believe what they believe - even if it has no basis in reality.
FOX News gives that audience justification to keep believing that which isn't true.
People who get their information from a variety of sources view FOX News from outside of that bubble - and hear viewers who only watch that channel for news (these are people who generally call into right-wing talk shows and start their sentences with things like "Mega dittos", or "You're a great American", or "It's an honor to speak with you - I agree with everything you say." - and we look upon you with a bit of pity - because the channel of which you are a fan of misinforms you on a daily basis.
If you went to school - and had a teacher who you absolutely loved & adored - and found out later than everything the teacher was teaching you was garbage - how would you feel about that teacher?
Most "students" of that teacher would feel betrayed & lied to & severely disappointed - and then do what they needed to to try to really learn everything they DIDN'T learn.
The amazing thing about FOX News watchers is that they continue to be fans of - and watch & support - that which totally misinforms them.
Liberals love to bash FOX because we see it for the evil that it is. A station which purports to be "fair & balanced" and "news" - but is, in fact, anything but.
I want to say that there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with being a Republican or a conservative. There are many Republicans and conservatives who I very much respect - I might not agree with them - but I respect their analysis, appreciation of history, acknowledgment of the truth. My commentary here isn't about Republicans & conservatives at all.
FOX News, however, is a big problem - because it is no more "news" than pro wrestling is actual competition.
A misinformed public is harmful to society. FOX News's goal IS to misinform for the purpose of promoting a harmful political agenda.........and that is why FOX News is bashed - and rightly so.

Probably because of stuff like this:

Fox also has more conservative political pundits than liberal political pundits, except for Alan Colmes, who is more moderate than leftist.

Because it's ineffectual and highly biased and it
is unapologetically smug about it.
But that's the mistake people make in the media.
They think that if they are the ones doing all the talking
on TV that you WILL believe it.
I'm glad most people don't really trust them.
An aware newsreader will look deeper into the sources
of where the story comes from.
