In French it is double v :)
U and V have this special kind of relationship, you know. A long time ago, there was only V letter for both V and U...
So W is double V in some languages and double U in English :)

Because we English have resisted the contamination of our language by foreigners for years we chose double u not double v like the French and Germans.

It was originally written as uu, but over the years peoplee took shortcuts when writing and it then became w and has continued ever since
