Why? I never understand this. I am a computer science grad student and get made fun of whenever I tell people that I use an Apple Mac (Dual 2.3, G5). Most people either use XP or a LINUX strain. They usually say something like, "It's only got one mouse button!!. It's a toy!!. Pretty computers are dumb!!. Get a REAL OS, like XP!!...It doesn't even have a command line!!" (Actually, it does...you just don't need it).

As it turns out, most of these people have never even used a Mac...so what's the deal? Both Windows and LINUX are decent systems, but every version of Windows I have run seems to have stability problems. I have the released version of Vista 32-bit Ultimate at work and it still has bugs (this is NOT a beta). I don't have a lot of experience with LINUX, but the versions I have used seem to make you work harder for the same result. Besides, Macs are UNIX based too.

So...why do people hate Apples? Mine never crashes and does everything I need it to...

Difficult to use?? Ummm...I'm guessing you haven't used one. Have you? Maybe it is because I have used Macs since system 8, but they are incredibly easy to use!!! Chances are if you can't do something, you just aren't looking at the right option menu.

Russell, I wish you and I could sit down over a beer and chat...there are so many things you don't seem to understand....like Macs now run Windows...and LINUX, if needed... I may not change your mind, but I could still teach you a little.

I hate apples, because they suck. You have to buy separate software and hard where just for the mac, the day it can run pc programs with no problems, is the day I will change my mind.

I think this is probably because of the amount of bragging that Apple does. Microsoft campaigns there products but is very neutral where as Apple gets kind of pushy and seems to put down other vendors sometimes.

People tend to like the quiet guy and not the noisy guy. Apple seems very noisy and I think that's why they've gotten a bad rep.

They also tend to create products that are more towards esthics and not usability. For example, their MAC pro weighs 60+ lbs. Yes it is nice that it's made out of titanium. I can use this to melt down as they place titanium rods in my back from hurting it after lifting one.

Their look and feel attitude also plays a part in getting a bad rep.

Truthfully, even though MACS may hold their own, they are difficult to use, fix, and to build upon. It's just they are less user friendly.

I don't laugh at Mac users, just don't understand the mindset. For the power the price is pretty high and the available software/hardware options are pretty limited.

I own a computer business and considered becomng aMac vendor but after looking at costs and market share I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Most of the computers I personally use run Solaris because it is so stable but has all the options of a PC when it comes to hardware. Linnux isn't something I would bother with because I don't have time to play around with it. Windows is something I have to use because of market share, keeping my business alive is pretty important to me.

I use both a MAC and a PC. I like my MAC way better because it's faster and never has any problems. I also think they're way more user friendly, and you can do more with them.
