I saw this on Oprah years ago, but would like to see what people say today...

If you and your spouse/significant other and your child were with you and your car ran into a lake and you ONLY had time to save one person from drowning, who would you save?

Rules: you absolutely can only pick ONE person

My answer years ago was different than it is today.

My wife and I have had this discussion, and we are both under orders from the other person to save the child first. I would suffer without her, and she would pine away for losing me...but neither one of us could ever forgive ourselves if we did not do all that we could to save our child.

It has to be your child. There's no love like the love between a parent and child, but that's just the emotional explanation. There is logic behind saving the child too, as he/she is younger and has more years ahead (in theory) than your spouse.

Finally, if you saved your spouse, you would have to answer to them everyday for the rest of your life together (which probably wouldn't be long) why you didn't save your child. Instead of being thankful, they would blame you for a life of emptiness without their child in it.

It all depends on if my partner/spouse knew Christ, if so and the child didn't i would save the child, but if the child is still in his/her innocent years, then maybe the adult. Cause the most important part of dying is that you are ready to meet Christ. But all in all it would be a very tough choice. I would definitely hope and try to save both though.

OPRAHHHH! I think Letterman was REEEALLY onto something there...when he hosted the Academy Awards...exc. that Uma Thurman is SO much cooler in every way than that....I can't say it or I'll get DELETED (!!!) OPRAH!

WHOM would i save? 1) MY KID! 2) Myself 3) Maybe...my spouse (on a good day). Not too many other people and NOT OPRAH...unless it was foolproof (like, with a crane, etc.).

My child. Because my spouse should want me to save the child first anyway

I have 5 children. I can only pick one?

I think I would die trying to save all of them.

I chose my husband to spend the rest of my life with him, and children are basically a gift, but you don't choose them, and they don't choose you. I would save my husband.
