It is because they want their baby to be better than everyone elses. That is if they are competitive. They want to reassure themselves that their baby is special. Smarter, faster, etc...

I do agree people lie ALL the time on here...but in the things you just listed, most of them can actually happen.
My daughter is 3 1/2 months and I wouldn't be at all surprised if she is able to sit up sometime in her 5th month based on what she can do now.
Crawling at 4 is unlikely but I worked as infant teacher in a daycare and had a little boy that started to army crawl right before he turned 5 months and prior to that he had been rolling across the room to get from place to place.
As for 20 lb 7 month olds I do believe it...there are a TON of overweight babies out there and if the baby was nearly 10 lbs at birth that is almost target weight...they are to double their birth weight at 6 months old.
But I do totally agree with you, people come up with the dumbest stuff :)

Some are probably telling the truth, some maybe stretching the truth and some lying. There is so much variances in babies. My youngest who is 5 now was born weighing 8 lbs 15 oz. At 4 months of age he was 20 pounds. I had to get him a new carseat, the bigger ones, as he could no longer fit into his baby carseat carrier safely. He looked like the michelin man..everywhere I went people made over him cuz he was sooo chubby. He is still a big boy, weighs almost 70 pounds and he is 5. Not fat, just BIG, tall too. I have three boys, and they all did things at different times as far as milestones go.

I'm not sure that all of them lie. Some babies ARE advanced. My sister walked at 8 months old and my neice sat up at 5 months and crawled at 5 months also. My son is 6 months old and already weighs over 17lbs. So he could be 20lbs by the time he is 7 or 8 months.
Yes though i do think some people on here lie. Why? I dont know.

LOL... Don't you have a question out about your baby walking at 6 months?
I think that some moms see it as a competition... my baby is better than yours kind of thing. Like they need to feel superior to validate the love that they have for their kids.
My daughter is 9 months and just barely started crawling... she doesn't have to do anything extraordinary for me to think that she's the greatest in the world.

You'd be surprised. Most of the people are telling the truth!
My son is now 10 months weighting 23lbs. No joke. He's lost weight though now that he started crawling.
He started to crawl at six months. In the same month he started to sit on his own.
At about seven months he started to pull up. Now, at ten months he just took his first steps.
Call me a liar. That's okay. I don't know why people would lie about these things. It's not like people don't think my son is huge merely because he's 23lbs and I'm overfeeding him.
I've been called "pushy" just because I encourage my son to walk, crawl, and sit up. It's sad.
If a question is asked like; "When did your child crawl, pull up, sit up, and walk?" Why shouldn't they be able to answer? Some kids develop quickly. Some kids develop on time and some are late bloomers. That should be no reason for a parent not to share their experiences.

Not everyone lies and not every baby does things at the same time.
Our son sat up on his own at 5mths old, and walked at 8.5mths old. Believe it or not, it happens. Babies have walked at 6mths old and some babies say their first word at 5mths...every child is different....dont think people are lying just because you've never seen it.

Some may lie but your examples aren't far fetched...
My little girl was walking great at 10 months- My niece was the same way but her sister didn't even try to start walking until after her 1st birthday. Kids develop at different rates but it sounds as if your child may really be behind if you feel that everybody is lying about their kids development.

is your baby slow then? Cause nephew one: sat at 4 months
crawled at 5
walked at 10 mo
nephew 2: sat at 3 months
crawled at 4 months
walked at 5 months
and my son: sat at 3 months
crawled at 5
and is pulling to a stand at 6 months
oh and my son weighs 20 lbs 9 ounces at 6 months...
people are not lying, every baby is different, and some are more advanced than others, while some are slower.

Well my middle daughter sat at 4m, crawled at 5 months, and walked at 7m.... Sorry if you can see that some babys do things earlier then others while others later... My oldest daughter sat at 6m, crawled at 8m, and didn't walk until 13m.... Things happen at different stages for different people. As far as weight.... some babys are over weight while others are not..... 20lbs can be average these days for a 6-9m old baby.
Good luck

OK SWEETIE SOME MOMMIES WORK WITH THEIR CHILDREN UNLIKE SOME. SO YES SOME BABIES DO THINGS EARLIER THAN SOME. DO YOU HAVE KIDS PROBABLY NOT. AND IF YOU DO AND YOURS DON'T DO ANY OF THESE THINGS THEN EITHER YOU DON'T WORK WITH YOUR CHILDREN OR THEY JUST LEARN SLOWER THAN OTHER KIDS. MY SON IS 5.5 MONTHS OL AND CAN SIT UP ALL BY HIMSELF HAS BEEN ABLE TO SINCE 4 MONTHS AND IS TRYING TO CRAWL AND MY SON DOES WEIGH 20 FREAKING POUNDS. BUT SEE I WOULDN'T LIE CAUSE I DON'T HAVE TO PROVE TO YOU ANYTHING. YOU ASKED THIS QUESTION AND I ANSWERED. ITS VERY NORMAL FOR BABIES TO LEARN EARLY AND BE BIG BABIES. SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CHILD THEN DON'T ASK QUESTION ABOUT THESE THINGS.
