I'm thinking of moving to San Diego, but I hear its very very expensive. So I'm looking for a less expensive, but still SAFE neighborhood. And if you tell me a neighborhood----also----why is it inexpensive? Is it at all dangerous, or is it far away from the best parts of the city, or is it an ugly neighborhood?

You can get cheaper rent in So. Bay; Chula Vista, National City. If you want to be nearer central SD, North Park and Golden Hill areas are less and fairly decent.
The rent in Balboa Park/ Hillcrest ( a good area) start at $900 usually for 1 bedrooms, 1100 for 2. The areas I mentioned prior are about $100+ less, depending. Beach areas, PB, OB Mission, are pricey and congested; same w/ North County. All I mentioned are relatively safe, maybe less so in So. Bay and anything east of North Park.

Don't cheap out. Maybe live in a bit smaller place than you were thinking of -- near the ocean (north San Diego) or city center. You'll enjoy life so much more than inland where it is either hot or just a bedroom community. Metropolitan San Diego is the 6th safest city in the USA (ranked among cities with population over 500,000). You can still find neighborhoods you probably wouldn't like, but on the whole, things are pretty safe down here.

Well I'm glad you asked that because I was wondering the same thing. Well so far I found nice neighborhoods in Chula Vista, San Marcos, Enticitas, Escondido, and some other areas. I'll just give you a hint. Do not try OceanSide, when my family and I where looking for homes in there my dad co-workers said there is alot of gang violence, alot. there so when I find out some more I'll let you know.
