Just use a proxy server. You can get around most school restrictions by usig them.
They are a sight that you can go to and type in the website you want to visit and they'll bypass your school safety settings.

We all have bosses, yours are the administrators. Just as I can change jobs, or chose where to live, you can change schools. If there are no controls, porn will be viewed, maybe not by you, but some. The grading system is too tough, the dorm rules aren't fair, etc, etc. Your beginning to get a taste of the real world. I have to follow rules made by:
My employer, my township, the department of motor vehicles, the state, and the federal government.

It might also have something to do with protecting the computers from viruses. Visiting unsafe sites puts the computers out there to crash. I agree though. You are paying money so your school should have the funding to maintain the computer lab. Talk to some of the faculty about how they would go about it. If it's a small school it may be easier to ge the ball rolling.

If the computers are in a public usage area, then you have to have those guards on there. It's not because you're not old enough to see mature material, but because other people don't want to accidently see it.
And there are people that would view, on purpose, mature materials while in a public place because they're disgusting like that. So to save us from people like that...the guards are put up and who knows, maybe it's for everyone including the staff so they can't look up that stuff.

If it's your personal computer, they cannot restrict where on the internet you go. If it is a school-owned and maintained computer system, though, they have every right to restrict what is allowed on their campus. They own the computers and they pay for the internet. Sorry!

don't whine and complain get a petiton going and take it to the deans or administrators of your college and say we disagree with the following policy is there a way it can be changed. Present your argument in a mature and professional manner and it may get more consideration than just saying hey you wont let us do this.

You're getting their internet service for free. If you want to look at and do whatever you want, pay for your own internet access.
When I was in University, they only provided us with free 33k6 dialup anyway. A bunch of us got together to pay for DSL and we ran it into an 8 port wired hub (wireless was still expensive) and shared it throughout our part of the dorm.

I too think it's ridiculous, but there's not much we can do about it. I paid for my own computer and its service, but I can't use it the way I want to. That's one of the things I just don't like about living on campus.
