as a child care provider i was told that it is not recomended because it can affect their hips, not their legs and that is only if you put them in one if they are to small for it. At 4 and a half months they are not to small.
However there is a natural order of things and by forcing your child into one of those things it affects the natural order and can cause problems later on in life. That being said i was putting my son in one at 4 months. But he is also a larger baby

My daughter is 4 and a half months old and absolutely hates laying down on her stomach and her back unless she's asleep so to save myself from constantly being worn out we started looking into walkers, exersaucers and other things. We decided to go with the stationary exersaucer but we made sure to get one that was marked 4 months and up that way we knew it would not have the really wide part of the seat which is the major problem. I wouldn't go with the walkers because my Ped. said it teaches them to walk the wrong way and makes it take longer for them to learn to walk on there own.

Being a mother of 3 children....Yes, I would put my child in a walker at that age. Matter of fact my children were in walkers...both stationary and moveable ones before 4 1/2 months. All three of my children walked before they were a year old too. Them being in a walker will not hurt their legs, only strengthen them, but I am not a doctor so I could be wrong. In the case of my children, it strengthened their legs.

Yes, a walker is fine. Walkers do not harm the legs. It is good exercise and strengthens the legs before the baby learns to walk. Just make sure you block off any stairs so the baby doesn't do a tumble down them.

My kids both used walkers.

If your baby is trying to push off of the floor with his feet when you are holding him up then he is ready for a walker. I suggest the stationary ones to begin with as it will help him to build his leg muscles. Once he can stand easily with the stationary one you could switch to one with wheels.

that is an old wives tale. walkers will not hurt your babies legs. as far as a stationary or wheeled walker that is up to you, neither one will hurt. Remember there are many old wives tales about raising kids. If ever in question just ask your pediatrician.

mdoud is right. I have three children, all used stationary walkers from the time they could sit up and hold their heads up. Two are star soccer players, and my youngest is athletic in all areas. I think it's because they developed their leg muscles early.

My children have all used walkers ages 2,5,and 7. It started out they didn't want people to use walkers on infants because they thought it delays walking, then it was of the dangers associated with them (people useing them near stairs)... So my personnal belief is that since they can't outlaw them they find other ways to try and get people to stop using them. We used them as children, and lots of children have used them.
My twin nephews are 4m old now (born in July) and they love theirs.
Go for it.

all good things in moderation. supervise your child whether in a stationary one or with wheels, but especially with the wheels. my sister about rolled down some stairs. leaving them in a walker for too long can cause some walking problems..such as toe walking.

Absolutely Not!!I feel that putting your baby in a walker ,makes them more inlined not to walk. I Never used a walker on my child and he started walking at ten months old.He would pull himself up on furniture and learnt to do it himself. The only advantage i see it for is as part time amusement for baby.
