Generally a "Boiler" is a form of a furnace used in hot water heating systems, while a "Water Heater" supplies fresh hot potable water to your home (sink, shower, etc.).

While Tim is right, we do have a hot water boiler/heater that does both jobs. In fact when my water heater goes out, it's on the way, I'll change over to a boiler/heater conversion. one until to serve both purposes.

Water Heaters Are Steel Tanks That are Glass lined for Heating Potable water Usallly About 45,000 btu.
Boilers are Made Of either castiron or copper for heating water or turning water into steam and are low pressure and have Higher btu values.

they do the same thing by suppling heat but when you have a water heater thatsexactly what it does
a boiler supplies heat some people have different hook ups like one is runs on oil and the other runs on gas
